| Conceived as a celebration of health, fitness and the
individual’s ability to make a difference in the world, The Cuban
Journey Run, to begin Spring 2000, will cover 600 miles from Santiago
to Havana, Cuba. Stan
Cottrell, the ultra-long distance marathon runner renowned for his
inspirational and motivational work with countries, communities,
corporations and children, will lead the way, accompanied by runners of
all ages. The Cuban Journey Run is produced by Mr. Cottrell’s non-profit
company, Friendship Sports Association, Inc., and is recognized by the
President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

COMMITMENT AND ENDURANCE
Few runners would even attempt the rigors of the entire
Cuban Journey Run, but Stan Cottrell has made a life’s work commitment to excellence
and a constant challenge to his body’s endurance.
Mr. Cottrell will run 26 miles a day – a marathon a day – for
approximately 26 consecutive days. A
support team comprised of a nutritionist, trainer, and doctor will
accompany him. International
award winning filmmaker Mickey Grant will be directing a team recording
the event. “We will have a world class non-fiction film ready
for release by the end of 2000,” Grant stated.
Stan Cottrell will cover the entire
course of the Cuba Journey Run, and will be joined for
portions of the run by thousands of people along the way.
Their involvement is a key ingredient of this undertaking, which
Mr. Cottrell defines as “an event that can create goodwill that will be
felt by generations for all time.”
Among those expected to echo Mr. Cottrell’s call for friendship,
communication, personal effort, and fitness are:
leading sports and entertainment celebrities; student athletes of
all ages’ recreational joggers, runners and walkers’ members of
running clubs and fitness associations; members of the armed forces,
including disabled veterans; and members of social clubs and civic
organizations that support the values embodied by The Cuban Journey Run.
Stan Cottrell will also encourage participation
in other ways. Some of his
evenings will not be spent recuperating from his grueling days.
Instead, he’ll be on hand for Cuban Journey Fitness
Festivals. These events will
allow young people who join the Run to take a physical fitness test and
also receive a certificate for their involvement in the event. In larger communities, there will also be Cuban Journey Run Rallies, and Mr. Cottrell will be the focal point of these
evenings of entertainment and positive motivation, offering presentations
of the life-changing principles of health, fitness and the spirit of
making a difference that he practices. |
